Women Lose 7-2
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's soccer team lost to Buena Vista by the score of 7-2 Tuesday in the final non-conference tune-up before the start of the conference season.
The Knights fell behind early when Buena Vista's Tori Carson scored in the ninth minute of play, but tied things up on a goal by Lauren Maertz on a pass from Alison Filter in the 26th minute. The goal was Maertz's second of the season.
From there, the Beavers would take control, cashing in chances near the MLC goal by scoring twice more in the first half, and then once more in the 52nd minute to take a 4-1 lead.
Casey Sauer scored in the 59th minute for MLC off a pass from Bethany Schultz to cut the deficit to 4-2, but the Beavers scored three more times the rest of the way (twice in the final four minutes) to wrap up the win.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 1-3-0 on the season, while Buena Vista improved to 5-0-1.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, September 14, when they host Northwestern in the conference opener at Knight Field. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
