Women's Soccer Improves to 5-2 in UMAC Play with Win
MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to defeat Bethany Lutheran 2-1 Thursday night.
The Knights outshot the Vikings 9-1 in the first half, but the game remained scoreless until Taylor Friehl scored to put BLC ahead 1-0 in the 56th minute.
That lead would be short-lived, however, as Alex Hastings evened things at 1-1 just 27 second later off a pass from Bethany Schultz. The goal was Hastings' seventh on the season.
Schultz would put the Knights ahead in the 65th minute, scoring her ninth of the season off a Hastings feed.
MLC would make that one-goal lead hold the rest of the way, as the defense allowed just four total shots on the day, two of which were on goal. The Knights outshot BLC 21-4 for the game.
The Knights improved to 7-4 on the season and 5-2 in the UMAC with the win, while BLC dropped to 3-6-3 overall and 2-3-2 in league play in defeat.
MLC will return to action against Saturday, October 12, when it hosts BLC for the second game of a two-game series at 12 p.m.
