Women Top North Central at Knight Field
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's soccer team beat North Central 3-1 to pick up its first conference win of the season Saturday afternoon at Knight Field.
The Knights dominated play for much of the game, outshooting NCU 35-14 overall and 24-3 on goal.
Emily Marggraf started the scoring for MLC with a goal in the 11th minute to put the Knights up 1-0.
After an NCU goal tied the game at the half at 1-1, Hannah Mattek scored the game-winner early in the second half. Lauren Maertz tacked on an insurance goal just three minutes later to give MLC the final 3-1 margin of victory.
Marggraf finished the game with eight shots (all on goal), and also had an assist to go with her goal. Bethany Schultz had nine shots in the game, four of which were on goal.
With the win, MLC improved to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the UMAC, while NCU dropped to 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
MLC will return to action on Thursday, September 20, when it travels to Minnesota, Morris for a game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
