Women Upset at Crown
ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The MLC women's soccer team dominated the stat sheet but was unable to win on the scoreboard in a 3-2 loss at Crown Saturday.
The Knights held a 20-7 edge in shots for the game, and outshot the Storm 9-5 on goal.
MLC jumped out to an early 2-1 lead on goals by Lauren Maertz and Emily Marggraf, with Bethany Schultz assisting on Maertz's goal in the eighth minute.
Crown seized momentum at the end of the half, scoring with 11 seconds to play on a broken play in the middle of the field to tie the game at 2-2.
The Knights controlled play in the second half, but the Storm scored in the 84th minute on their only shot of the half, and then held on the rest of the to hold off the Knights late.
Maertz's goal was her team-leading sixth on the season, while Marggraf's goal was her second.
The Knights fell to 4-9 overall and 3-6 in the UMAC with the loss, while Crown improved to 4-10-1 on the season and 2-7-1 in league play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, October 16, when they travel to Bethany Lutheran for a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The women will be playing the first half of the double header in this game.
