Knights Lose Two at NWC
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The MLC softball team dropped both games of a Friday double header at Northwestern, losing game one 7-1 and game two 10-3.
Northwestern scored seven runs on eight hits on the way to beating MLC 7-1 in game one.
The Knights held a 1-0 leading heading into the bottom of the fourth after an Amber Krause RBI double in the first inning, but the Eagles scored once in the fourth, twice in the fifth, and four times in the sixth to put the game away.
Laura Miller dropped to 4-8 on the season on the mound for the Knights, allowing seven runs (two earned) in seven innings of work.
Katie Kretsch finished with two of MLC's five hits in the game, and scored the lone run in the first inning.
Northwestern scored at least once in all six innings in which it went to the plate on the way to a 10-3 win over MLC in game two.
The Eagles finished with 15 hits off MLC starter Sarah Free, who dropped to 2-8 on the season after allowing ten runs (six earned) in the game.
At the plate, MLC finished with five hits, with Karla Opperman leading the way with two hits and an RBI.
MLC dropped to 6-16 overall and 3-8 in the UMAC with the two losses, while Northwestern improved to 15-15 on the season and 10-5 in league play with the two wins.
The Knights will return to the diamond no Monday, April 25, when they travel to Presentation for the UMAC crossover games. MLC's first game is against UM-Morris, and will start at 3 p.m.
