Nine Softball Players Named NFCA Scholar Athletes
NEW ULM, Minn. - Nine players from the MLC softball team were named scholar athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
The honor is given to any player nominated who held a grade point average of 3.50 or better during the year of competition.
The nine players to receive recognition were Amanda Fogle, Brittney Gossen, Amber Krause, MacCartney Mendolla, Laura Miller, Karla Opperman, Stephanie Punke, Emily Waldek and Sara Willems.
As a team, the Knights had a 3.369 GPA, the highest of any softball team in the UMAC in 2012.
The MLC softball team is scheduled to begin its season on March 12, 2013, when it plays Macalester in a double header at the Irish Sports Dome.
