Softball Drops Pair
MOLINE, Ill. - The MLC softball team had its five game win streak to open the season snapped with a pair of losses at a tournament in Moline, Ill., which was hosted by Augustana College.
The Knights dropped game one of the day to Dubuque by the score of 12-0, and then were beaten by a score of 6-3 by Finlandia in game two.
In game one, MLC finished with three hits for the game, with Heather Korb (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran HS), Karla Opperman (North Branch, Mich./North Branch) and April Cook (Menomonee Falls, Wis./KMLHS) each finishing with one hit apiece.
Sarah Free (Plover, Wis./LPS) got the start in game one and took the loss after allowing all 12 runs (nine earned) on 14 hits in five innings to drop her record to 2-1 on the season.
In game two, the Knights held a lead through five innings, but six hits, two errors and a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning brought the second loss of the day to Finlandia.
MLC was outhit 9-4 on the day, and were led by Opperman, Cook and Brittany Jensen (Hortonville, Wis./FVL) with one hit apiece. Opperman had an RBI double in the game, while Jensen, Cook and Korb scored the Knights' three runs.
With the losses, MLC dropped to 5-2 on the season. They will return to the field for two more games in Moline tomorrow (Sunday, March 28). Game one will be against River Falls and starts at 9 a.m., while game two will be against Wittenberg and will start at 1 p.m.
