Softball Finishes Season at Northwestern
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The MLC softball team dropped both games of its final double header of the season, losing game one 16-9 and game two 11-0.
Northwestern opened up a 9-9 game with a seven-run sixth inning to beat MLC 16-9 in game one.
The Knights scored twice in the first and five more times in the second, but was still tied after three innings, as the Eagles scored one in the first, five in the second and once in the third.
After the teams traded runs to tie the score at 9-9, the Eagles sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth, scoring seven runs on seven hits and two MLC errors.
Sarah Free (Plover, Wis./LPS) allowed all 16 runs (13 earned) on 21 hits to drop to 6-9 on the season.
Free did her best to help her own cause at the plate, finishing with a team-high four hits. Katie Kretsch (New Ulm, Minn./MVL) added three hits, while Jessica Henning (Redwood Falls, Minn./Redwood Valley HS) had a team-best three RBI.
The MLC bats were unable to keep up after losing the game one slugfest as they dropped game two 11-0 to Northwestern.
The Eagles won the game in the second inning, scoring 11 runs on ten hits off MLC starting pitcher Heather Korb (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran HS), who dropped to 6-9 on the season with the loss.
For the game, the Eagles outhit the Knights 15-3, with Henning, Karla Opperman (North Branch, Mich./North Branch HS) and Amber Krause (Mequon, Wis./LPS) each recording one hit.
With the losses, MLC finished the season 15-23 overall and 7-14 in league play.
