The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the third inning and starting pitcher Sarah Free (Plover, Wis./LPS) made it stick in a 3-1 win in game one for MLC.

Free allowed only four hits and one walk in seven innings to improve to 3-3 on the season. Free also did damage at the plate, finishing 2-3 for the game with two doubles.

MLC broke a scoreless tie in the third Brittany Jensen (Hortonville, Wis./FVL) and April Cook (Menomonee Falls, Wis./KMLHS) drove home Free and Heather Korb (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran HS). Korb scored a second run in the fifth inning with the help of two Northland errors to give the Knights an insurance run.

[GAME 2]

Northland broke open a 2-2 tie with a seven-run third inning on the way to beating the Knights by a score of 15-7 in game two.

Laura Miller (Kent, Wash./Evergreen) got the start on the mound and lasted 2.2 innings on the way to dropping to 2-4 on the season. Miller allowed eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits and four walks.

Amber Krause (Mequon, Wis./LPS) was the hitting star for the Knights in game two. Krause hit a two-run inside-the-park home run in the third inning to tie the score at 2-2, and later added a single to her 2-3 game at the plate. Jensen also finished with two hits, while Free added three RBI with a double in the sixth inning.

With the split, MLC moved to 8-11 overall and 2-5 in the UMAC, while Northland is now 9-16 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.

MLC will return to the field tomorrow (April 17), when it hosts St. Scholastica for a double header starting at 1 p.m.
