Softball Still Alive Despite Loss to BLC

MORRIS, Minn. - The MLC softball team lost its round two game against Bethany Lutheran at the UMAC Softball Tournament by the score of 4-1, but remains alive in the double elimination tournament.

The game was scoreless through two innings, but the Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third as they pieced together a rally with four hits and were helped by two MLC errors that led to both runs being unearned.

MLC answered in the the bottom half of the third when Amanda Fogle singled home Maggie Schultz, who led off the inning with a double.

The Knights were unable to generate any more offense the rest of the way, as BLC pitcher Shannon Heitz held them to just one hit in the final four innings.

Laura Miller pitched 5.0 innings for MLC in the loss, dropping her record to 9-8 on the season after allowing all four runs (two earned) on seven hits.

MLC dropped to 20-14 on the season with the loss, while BLC improved to 22-18 with the win.

MLC will play in the elimination game at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday, May 4) morning against UM-Morris, which knocked off top-seeded St. Scholastica earlier in the day to advance. The winner of that game will advance to the Championship Game against Bethany Lutheran at 12 p.m., with a second game to follow if Bethany loses that game.
