Softball Swept at BLC
MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team lost a both games of a double header at Bethany Lutheran College by the scores of 5-3 and 6-5 on Tuesday.
The Knights were unable to hold a late two-run lead in a 5-3 loss to BLC in game one.
MLC led the game 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but surrendered four runs to the Vikings on the way to the loss.
The Knights built that lead thanks to a solo home run by Sara Willems in the fourth inning, and then a pair of runs in the top half of the sixth.
Kathryn Marquardt went the distance on the mound for MLC and fell to 5-5 on the season after allowing six hits and five runs (all earned) in six innings of work.
MLC once again struggled to hold onto a late lead, as Bethany Lutheran scored four times in the sixth and once more in the seventh to win game two 6-5.
Willems connected with a three-run home run in the third inning to give MLC a 3-1 lead, and the Knights added two more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead into the bottom half of the inning.
Starting pitcher Kelli Doell held the Vikings to one run and three hits through five innings, but was unable to slow them late as they tied the game in the sixth and won it in walk-off fashion in the seventh. Doell's record fell to 4-5 on the season in defeat.
MLC fell to 10-11 overall and 4-7 in league play with the loss, while BLC improved to 6-20 on the season and 5-6 in the UMAC with the win.
