Softball Swept by CSS
FOREST LAKE, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team lost both games of a double header against St. Scholastica on Friday night by the scores of 9-1 and 12-0.
The Saints outhit the Knights 13-5 on the way to a 9-1 game one win in five innings.
CSS jumped on top early with one run in the first and two more in the second to take the lead, and then ended the game with three runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
MLC's lone run came in the top of the fifth, when first-year designated player Sarah Couture doubled home Maggie Schultz from second base.
Kathryn Marquardt fell to 7-8 this season on the mound for the Knights in defeat, allowing all nine runs (eight earned) in 4.1 innings.
The Knights kept things close at the start of the game, but CSS scored eight times in the fourth inning to finish off a 12-0 game two win in five innings.
Starting pitcher Emily Waldek took the loss for MLC, falling to 1-2 on the season allowing 12 runs (four earned) on 12 hits in 4.0 innings of work.
The Saints outhit the Knights 12-2, and also took advantage of three MLC errors that led to eight unearned runs, seven of which came in the critical fourth inning.
Couture and Kelli Doell had the lone hits for MLC in the game.
After the two losses, MLC dropped to 13-16 overall and 7-12 in the UMAC, while CSS improved to 22-10 on the season and 16-0 in league play with the two wins.
The Knights will close the UMAC portion of their schedule tomorrow (Saturday, April 26) when they host Crown in a double header scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
