[MLC 9, Presentation 6]

The Knights scored eight times in the first four innings on the way to winning the opener 9-6 over Presentation.

The Saints scored first in the top of the second, but MLC came back to take the lead with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Knights had five hits in the inning, including RBI base hits from Karla Opperman, Amanda Fogle and Sarah Free.

MLC scored twice more in the third when Karla Opperman drove home two with a single, and then tacked on two insurance runs on RBI singles from Katie Scherer and Jessica Henning.

Those runs would be all starting pitcher Laura Miller would need, as she went the distance to improved to 3-5 on the season. Miller finished with two strikeouts and only one earned run allowed in seven innings.

[Presentation 5, MLC 4]

MLC scored twice in the first inning, but was able to muster only one more hit the rest of the way in a 5-4 loss to Presentation in game two.

The Saints scored two runs (both unearned) off MLC starter Sarah Free in the first inning, but the Knights roared back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning when Katie Scherer drove home Free, and MacCartney Mendolla scored on a Saints' error to tie the game.

That would be all the offense the Knights were able to come up with until the seventh inning, when MLC tried to come back from a three-run deficit. The Knights scored twice in the inning with the help of two Presentation errors, but came up short with runners on second and third base to end the game.

Free dropped to 1-3 on the season in the loss, going all seven innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on 11 hits.

With the split, MLC is now 4-10 overall and 3-2 in the UMAC, while Presentation is now 6-16 on the season and 1-4 in league play.

MLC will return to the diamond on Friday, April 13, when it travels to St. Scholastica for a double header scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
