MLC scored five times in the first inning and never looked back in a 15-4 win in game one.

The Knights batted around in the first inning, scoring five times on RBI hits from Madeline Scott, Jessica Henning and Stephanie Punke.

After one run in the second inning after a triple by Sarah Free, MLC responded to a two-run Crown third inning with three runs in the third and six more in the fourth to build a big enough lead to end the game in the fifth inning.

Free finished with a team-best three hits and three runs, while Karla Opperman had two extra base hits and three runs batted in. For the game, MLC finished with 14 hits, with seven of them going for extra base.

On the mound, Laura Miller improved to 5-8 on the season after allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits in five innings.

[MLC 9, Crown 3]

The Knights fell behind 2-0 in game two, but came back to outscore the Storm 9-1 the rest of the way in a 9-3 win.

After Crown scored once in both the first and second innings, the Knights got on the board with four runs in the second inning on hits by Katie Scherer, Amber Krause and Sarah Free.

MLC would continue to add insurance runs the rest of the way, scoring once in the next three innings, and then adding two more in the sixth.

The nine runs would be more than enough for Free on the mound, who allowed three runs (two earned) on 12 hits in seven innings.

With the win, MLC improved to 7-14 overall and 6-6 in the UMAC, while Crown dropped to 0-17 on the season and 0-13 in league play.

MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, April 21), when it hosts Northwestern in a double header scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
