Doubles Push MLC Women to Win
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's tennis team used a strong showing in doubles to help beat Northwestern 5-4 Thursday.
The Knights won all three doubles matches for three of their five points. Rachel Niemi and Karina Luthra won the top doubles match 8-5, Carol Niemi and Meredith Koltz won their match 8-5, and the team of Michelle Hintz and Lauren Gross won the final match 8-3.
Rachel Niemi and Luthra also won their singles matches in the number one and three spots, with Niemi coming back after dropping the first set to win by the scores of 3-6, 6-1, 10-2. Luthra won her match 7-5 and 7-5.
With the win, MLC improved to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the UMAC, while Northwestern dropped to 2-9 on the season and 1-1 in conference.
MLC will return to the courts on Saturday, April 9, when it hosts Minnesota, Morris for a match set to start at 1 p.m.
