Coach Cox Leads Group of MLC Volleyball Honorees
ST. PAUL – MLC volleyball coach Rebecca Cox was named UMAC Coach of the Year to lead a group that also included four all-UMAC recipients announced by the conference Thursday.
Rachel Hein and Rebecca Engelbrecht were named First Team All-UMAC, while Emily Boldt and Miranda Maasz received honorable mention. Maasz was also named co-Rookie of the Year.
Hein finished the season with a team-best 123 blocks, and tied for the team lead with 232 kills. In conference play, The junior middle hitter finished fourth in the UMAC in blocks with 45, and also led MLC’s hitters with an attack percentage of .305 during those games.
Engelbrecht led the Knights with 154 kills in conference play, averaging 3.21 kills per game and hitting .245 from her outside hitter position. She also averaged 2.29 digs per game and had 25 blocks against UMAC competition.
Boldt, one of two seniors on the team, received all-UMAC consideration each of the last two seasons, and led the UMAC with 54 blocks in conference play this season. She also tied Hein for the team lead with 232 kills, and hit .208 on the season.
Maasz followed Engelbrecht from a season ago by sharing Rookie of the Year in the conference. Maasz finished with 949 assists on the season as the team’s setter, and averaged 9.08 assists per game in conference play, third best in the UMAC. She also led MLC in service aces with 32.
Cox was named Coach of the Year after leading the Knights to a third place finish in the UMAC with a record of 18-13, despite missing several weeks to undergo treatment for breast cancer.
MLC also had Jennifer Draeger as the team recipient of the Sportsmanship Award.
