MLC Dominates Northland in Home Opener
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC volleyball team finally was able to play in its own gym, and rang in the start of the home schedule with a 3-0 win over Northland by the scores of 25-12, 25-7 and 25-11.
The Knights had a terrific day on the attack, hitting .493 for the match with 39 kills against only six errors. Northland hit -.125 for the match.
MLC jumped on the Lumberjills from the beginning, taking command of all three sets early and coasting to the win.
Rebecca Engelbrecht led the team with 13 kills, while Rachel Hein had seven kills and hit .700 in the match. Miranda Maasz finished with a match-high 29 assists, while Alex Anthon led the team with ten digs.
The Knights also provided a formidable defense up front, finishing with ten blocks on the night. Hein had three solo blocks and four total blocks, while Rachel Larson also had four blocks.
With the win, MLC improved to 8-9 overall and 2-1 in league play, while Northland dropped to 1-14 on the season and 0-3 in the UMAC.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, October 1), when they host St. Scholastica in the Homecoming game. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
