Volleyball Loses Two at Bethel
ST. PAUL - The MLC volleyball team lost both matches Friday night at the Bethel University Volleyball Invitational, losing 3-0 to Linfield by the scores of 27-25, 25-18 and 25-19, and then to host Bethel in four games by the scores of 25-14, 25-18, 14-25 and 25-15.

In the first match, Linfield pulled away late in each of the three games to beat the Knights 3-0 by the scores of 27-25, 25-18 and 25-19.
MLC held a late 25-24 lead in the first game, but Linfield scored the final three points to win that set 27-25. In the second game, the Knights trailed just 18-16 before Linfield ran off seven of the final nine points to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The Knights overcame a six-point deficit in the third game to trail 21-19 late in the third game, but Linfield scored the final four points of that to close out the match in three games.
Rebecca Engelbrecht led MLC with 12 kills, while Leah Nass added six kills and two blocks. Miranda Maasz led the team with 30 assists.
MLC played host Bethel in the second match, losing in four games by the scores of 25-14, 25-18, 14-25 and 25-15.
Bethel dominated the first two sets, hitting .333 and .423 on the way to a commanding 2-0 lead.
MLC turned the match around in the third game, hitting .346 while Bethel committed 11 errors in the set to force a fourth game.
In the final game, Bethel took control and put the Knights away to take the match in four games.
Engelbrecht once again led MLC with 14 kills, while Rachel Hein had nine kills and six blocks.
With the two losses, MLC dropped to 0-6 on the season. The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, September 8), when they play Central at 10 a.m. as part of day two at the Bethel University Volleyball Invitational.
