Three Volleyball Players Named First Team All-UMAC
ST. PAUL - Martin Luther College volleyball players Rebecca Engelbrecht, Miranda Maasz and Heather Danell were named First Team All-UMAC Thursday, while Alex Anthon was named honorable mention all-conference.
Engelbrecht received the honor for the third time in her career after leading the UMAC with 402 kills and an average of 4.10 kills per set. She was named UMAC Offensive Player six times this season, and finished her career second in career kills (1297) and kills per set (3.47) at MLC. Engelbrecht is one of only two players in program history to record at least 1,000 kills and 1,000 career digs.
Maasz received First Team All-UMAC honors for the second consecutive season after a strong junior campaign in which she averaged 10.14 assists per set. She picked up her production in conference play, averaging 10.8 assists per set, and moved into second place in the MLC record books with 2937 career assists.
Danell was named First Team All-UMAC for the first time after leading the team in attack percentage (.324) and blocks per set (0.96) in her junior season. During conference play, Danell improved both of those statistics, ranking second in the conference in blocks per set (1.15) and third in attack percentage (.350).
Anthon received honorable mention, and was also the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplifies sportsmanship throughout the season. The junior libero led MLC and finished fifth in the UMAC in digs per set (3.67).
