Volleyball Drops Five-Setter to Cougars
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC volleyball team was unable to pull through in a back-and-forth five set loss to Minnesota, Morris Saturday afternoon.
The Knights got off to a slow start in the first set, losing 25-18, but came back to take the second set 25-23.
After the Cougars took the third set, MLC broke open a 17-16 games with seven straight points off to take command of the set, winning it 25-18 to force the fifth set.
The fifth set continued the back-and-forth nature of the previous four, as it was tied 12-12, but the Cougars scored the final three points of the match to win 15-12.
The two teams were even offensively, with the Cougars hitting .154 for the match, while MLC hit .150. MLC was led by Rebecca Engelbrecht and Rachel Hein, who each had 13 kills, while Emily Boldt had 11.
The Knights also had a big day blocking the ball, finishing with 15 for the match. Hein had eight for the match, while Katelyn Hauf had six.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 12-9 overall and 4-3 in the UMAC, while UMM improved to 12-10 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
MLC will return to action on Thursday, October 14, when it travels to Crown for a 7 p.m. match.
