Volleyball Loses in Three to CSS
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC volleyball team struggled in a 3-0 loss to St. Scholastica Friday night by the scores of 25-10, 25-21 and 25-17.
The Knights were unable to get into a rhythm in any phase for much of the game, hitting .056 for the match compared to .348 for St. Scholastica. MLC, which entered the match ninth in the nation in blocks per set, finished with four blocks in the match as the Saints committed only six hitting errors in three sets.
CSS jumped in front from the start, taking an early lead with the help of the Knights committing nine hitting errors and three ball handling errors as the Saints won the set 25-10.
MLC turned things around to start the second set, taking a 4-0 lead and keeping things close until late in the set. With the score tied 17-17, the Saints scored four straight points to create separation and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The Saints finished off the match with a flurry, hitting .424 in the third set to win the match.
Rebecca Engelbrecht and Rachel Hein finished with seven kills apiece, while Miranda Maasz had 23 assists. MacCartney Mendolla and Jennifer Draeger combined for 23 digs.
St. Scholastica was led by Anna Zyvoloski, who finished with 17 kills and an attack percentage of .424. She also led the Saints with ten digs.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 10-9 on the season and 4-2 in the UMAC, while St. Scholastica improved to 10-9 overall and 5-1 in league play.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 6, when it hosts Northland in a match scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
