Volleyball Splits Day One at UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The MLC volleyball team split a pair of games on the first day of the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic Friday, beating Ripon 3-0 before losing to UW-Oshkosh 3-0.

In the first match, the Knights beat Ripon in three games by the scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-18.

The Knights were very strong defensively in the match, finishing with 11 blocks as a team. Rachel Hein had eight blocks, and Heather Danell added six.

Rebecca Engelbrecht had a team-high 16 kills and added eight digs, while Alex Anthon led the team with nine digs. Miranda Maasz finished with 34 assists.

MLC took on host UW-Oshkosh in the second match of the night, losing to the Titans 3-0 by the scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-21.

The Knights struggled early in the match, hitting -.128 and -.094 in the first two games before making a run at the third game by hitting .100, but it wasn't enough to avoid the sweep.

Rebecca Engelbrecht led the Knights with nine kills, while Alex Anthon had a team-high ten digs. Rachel Hein added six blocks and four kills.

With the split, MLC's record moved to 3-7 on the season.

The Knights will return to action at UW-Oshkosh tomorrow (Saturday, September 15) when they face Concordia University Wisconsin at 10 a.m.
