Volleyball Sweeps Saturday at Bethel
ST. PAUL - The MLC volleyball team picked up its first two wins of the season with a sweep of a Saturday double header at the Bethel University Volleyball Invitational, beating Central 3-0 and Carleton 3-1.
The Knights started the day on a roll with a 3-0 win over Central by the scores of 25-18, 28-26 and 25-17.
MLC hit .213 for the match compared to -.032 for Central. Rebecca Engelbrecht led the team with 11 kills and an attack percentage of .421, while Heather Danell had ten kills.
Engelbrecht also led the Knights with 12 digs and added three blocks. Rachel Hein was a force in the middle, finishing with eight blocks to go with her six kills.
MLC continued to roll in its second match, beating Carleton 3-1 by the scores of 25-17, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-22.
Engelbrecht once again led MLC in kills (21) and digs (17), while Hein finished with 14 kills and eight blocks.
Also chipping in against Carleton was setter Miranda Maasz, who had a season-best 50 assists and added ten digs, while first-year hitter Leah Nass had ten kills.
With the sweep, the Knights improved to 2-6 on the season. MLC will return to action on Friday, September 14, when it plays Ripon at 5:30 p.m. in the first day of action at a tournament hosted by UW-Oshkosh.
