The AC met on May 22 and addressed the following items:
- A report from President Olsen on the work of the Assignment Committee and Call Day indicated that of the 127 “category one” candidates (those without geographic restrictions to service), 99 were assigned. That left 23 men and 5 women unassigned on Call Day. Additional assignments will be handled by district presidents as a need arises.
- Committee assignments and appointments for the coming school year were made. A complete listing will be made available once the individuals involved have been contacted.
- A recommendation from the Early Childhood Center Committee to relocate the operation of our program to the back wing of Luther Manor continues to receive consideration. The new location would provide additional space for an expanded program with licensure and address safety concerns raised by this summer’s highway construction adjacent to the current location on the north end of the building. An architect’s plan for the remodeling has been received and cost estimates are being investigated.
- The Worship Committee continues to investigate the renovation of the current chapel space. Drawings prepared for the committee were shared with the AC. The drawings illustrate a special entrance seal clearly identifying our present auditorium as a chapel, a stage backdrop composed of 5 portable panels, an altar, a baptismal font, a lectern, hymn boards, a cross, two candelabra and a reading stand. Many of the components feature three dimensional wood carvings.
- Vice President Thiesfeldt reported a joint effort this summer between Network Services and the Math–Science division to develop wireless Internet access in the science labs and facilitate the use of laptop computers and digital multimeters for data collection during lab activities.
- Vice President Leyrer reported that retired missionary and Mrs. Fastenau addressed this year’s graduates who have volunteered for international service. The presentation provided valuable insights to service in a foreign mission field.
