The MLC Administration is discussing strategies for dealing with the economic downturn, which has led to an unexpected shortfall in the synod subsidy, a decrease in gifts to the school, and the decreasing value of MLC´s reserve funds. These strategies include delaying the replacement of faculty and staff members who retire or move on to other positions.

The economic challenges will not affect student tuition, which the administration and governing board increased in September by 3%, less than the 5% increase of past years and less than the increase at many other institutions across the country.
