Davey Melquist Celebrates 35 Years

Dave Melquist

It was 1973 when David Melquist first began working at DMLC in the Custodial Department. Davey’s worked different shifts and different buildings in the last 35 years, but one thing has remained the same, he says: the friendly, accepting atmosphere. “I always got along so well with the faculty and support staff and administration and everybody,” he says, “and that’s half of it right there—getting along with people, laughing and joking.”

He keeps pretty busy outside work as well. In the late-60s through the mid-80s, you might have seen him playing his bass guitar in country dance bands like Blackie and the Blue Boys, and Dee St. James and the Country Dee-Jays. Through the years, you’ve probably also seen Davey with his “most favorite companions,” his collie Laurie, his collie mix Laddie, and his current 9-year-old husky mix named Nicky. And you can’t miss him when he’s out on his cycle. He really loves his Harley Davidson.

We’re grateful to Davey for his 35 years of faithful service to (D)MLC, and we’re looking forward to seeing his smiling face for many more. Congratulations and God’s blessings, Davey!
