MLC Mission Advancement, Five Years of Blessings

2004 marked the first fulltime position (Kate Tohal) in the MLC Office of Mission Advancement (OMA). Proposed by MLC’s long-range strategic plan, the OMA was designed to connect MLC’s mission with the members in our local congregations. In 2009, with the OMA working closely with MLC President Mark Zarling and the WELS Ministry of Christian Giving, it is recognized as an essential component of MLC’s continued strategic plans. What does this office accomplish for MLC?

• Received almost $1.5M in gifts this year. (Does not include $150,000 of restricted funds. See chart right.) 50% of MLC donations result from the direct work of OMA. 45% result from the many relationships the OMA develops with supporters.
• Created and advances the Family Supporting Foundation which has received $2.6M and distributed almost $200,000 in student financial aid.
• Conducted almost 300 face-to-face visits with donors this year.
