The second annual Thalassa contest was another success. Eighteen MLC students and graduates submitted photo-and-essay entries reflecting on their ministries overseas. The judging panel chose Rachel Kionka '07, who taught this year in Malawi, as the winner. Her entry, "One in Christ," begins: "The joy hits before you even get out of the truck. The choir sways out of the small brick church, clapping and dancing. Then they begin to sing. It is a sound you've never heard before; the harmonies are more brilliant, more penetrating. Stepping down onto the dirt, you realize you will never be the same again." Thanks to an anonymous donor, Rachel and a mission of her choice will each receive $500.
