The 2013 synod convention addressed a concern voiced by many called workers—the cost of continuing education. The convention adopted a resolution from the Continuing Education for Called Workers (CECW) committee encouraging all congregations to 1) annually budget at least $1,000 per called worker for continuing education, and 2) treat that line item as “essential” so that it is not the first item cut when the budget gets tight (Committee 23, resolution 1).
The 2013 synod convention recognized the tremendous challenges WELS school leaders face today and adopted resolutions aimed at providing needed support. Their school leadership resolutions moved the synod toward 1) assigning fewer beginning teachers as principals, 2) creating a means to identify and recruit future principals/directors, 3) providing necessary training for principals/directors, and 4) giving principals/directors the time necessary to carry out the responsibilities of their calls (Committee #23, resolution 2; Committee 14, resolutions 2 & 3).
